Our long-term and ongoing support for writers is accomplished through Theatre Now's Musical Writers Lab. Through a highly selective application and interview process a limited number of musical theatre writing teams are asked to join either the Lab's in-person New York Group or online International Group. Resources and support made available to Lab members include rehearsal space, project-deadline setting, legal services among other tangible and intangible assets. Depending on the developmental stage of the team's piece, the Lab also offers early table readings, sit-down readings with invited audiences and industry readings for those ready for major production. Over the past 5 years the Lab has brought together a big, creative, community to do what we love the most together.

Show Submissions
We are always eager to work with new writers! This may include further development and production of full-length pieces, licensing of musical theatre works to schools, other professional theatre companies and community theatre, and the publication of musical theatre works. Full-length pieces are workshopped and produced by Theatre Now and presented in an off-off-Broadway theatre. Following a successful workshop, other performance-based developmental productions may be arranged with longer runs through Theatre Now, co-productions with other companies, or in association with other regional theatres.
SOUND BITES
SOUND BITES, now in its twelfth year, is an Annual 10-Minute Musical Festival, which showcases ten 10-minute musicals, all in one evening. Any 10-minute piece that can be performed, has a beginning, middle, and end story arc, and includes music qualifies! SOUND BITES offers an opportunity for talented musical theatre writers, composers, and lyricists to showcase their work in front of audiences and industry professionals. Through an open submission process, Theatre Now selects ten finalists for presentation in New York City each spring. During the first three years, SOUND BITES was held at The 47th Street Theatre. SOUND BITES 4.0 & 5.0 were presented at the Irene Diamond Stage at the Pershing Square Signature Center, and Merkin Hall at Kaufman Music Center. has been its home since then.
SOUND BITES not only continues to grow larger each year but also provides musical theatre writers with much needed opportunities to develop their work through performance.
